Food Security and Housing

Food Justice Now (FJN) is a student run UCalgary initiative that was created for the purpose of addressing Food Insecurity on campus. With tuition hikes and an ever rising cost of living, students are struggling. Food is a basic human right and need that many students on our campus are not having access to. Currently FJN focuses on monthly free meal events that provide gf/v meals to anyone without judgement alongside providing education about food insecurity on campus. Instagram: @food_justice_now

About FreshRoutes: We are a nonprofit social enterprise that increases access to affordable and healthy food to communities that need it most.

Grad Snacks program, which launched in mid-January 2023, provides nutritious, convenient snacks 24 hours a day for grad students at Foothills Campus. Grad students can find these items in the Zen Den located in HSC G214. Read more here

The Good Food Box program is run through the Community Kitchen Program of Calgary and aims to provide community members with greater access to affordable, nutritious and sustainable fresh fruits and vegetables. The program purchases produce directly from local farmers and wholesalers. The program is run by volunteers that pack the boxes full of fruits and vegetables to be delivered to depots across the city at affordable prices.

Foothills Campus Community Pantry is a grassroots initiative to support the food needs of our local campus community. Located in the Health Sciences Centre atrium (also known as Hippocrates Mall) at Foothill campus, the community pantry is stocked with non-perishable food items, as well as hygiene and cleaning essentials. It operates on a “share what you can, take what you need” model and is available to all campus community members.
